On March 11, the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a global pandemic, reaching more than 118 countries and affecting hundreds of thousands of people. In Uganda, a lockdown was instituted and it has had devastating consequences for vulnerable communities in the country.
Agropreneur Initiative, a youth led organisation, has been raising funds from local well wishers in support of Ugandan smallholder farmers whose livelihoods have been severely affected as they have no source of income since the market prices for agricultural commodities have fallen drastically leaving them and their dependants in severe economic crisis. The situation has reached a level where some ladies are collecting banana peelings from neighbours and boiling them to eat accompanied by water.
We are fundraising to secure the critical basics for these over 3,000,000 farmers who are vulnerable and struggling during these strange and disorienting circumstances imposed on the world by COVID-19. Basics include: Food, medicines, rent support and sanitation. We are especially focused on supporting the low income female farmers that include single mothers, those living with HIV and refugees in the rural areas of Uganda.
Stand together with us in unity -- to use our unique power of generosity to provide relief funds to these women who are disproportionately experiencing consequences. Consider sharing this GoFundMe Charity COVID-19 Relief Fund for Women Smallholder Farmers Support with your family and friends asking them to join with you in supporting a cause that you hold close to your heart.
Your tax-deductible gift will provide emergency grants to meet the highest priority needs of smallholder farmers, their families and communities impacted by COVID-19. The emergency fund will be used to provide;
• personal Protection Equipment (eye protection, gowns, gloves, face masks)
• transportation from remote locations to hospitals and medical appointments
• critical sanitation supplies
• food and clean water
• seeds, gardening supplies and equipment
• childcare products such as diapers
• toilet paper and additional hygiene products
• animal foods and other necessary items
The grants will also include limited operating support to continue relief efforts to the teams that are working tirelessly to get aid to those who need it the most.
